Dinair Airtan™is a major breakthrough in sunless tanning offering an effective, safe alternative to the harmful effects caused by outdoor sun exposure or ultraviolet light in tanning booths.
What is Airbrush tanning and how does it work?
Airbrush tanning is a safe way of getting what we all want...nice tanned skin. The state-of-the-art Dinair Airbrush technology (voted #1 sunless tanner) has the benefits of DHA (dihydroxyacetone tanning technology, an FDA approved ingredient) and selected extracts and oils which create the long-lasting tan. The product is derived from sugar cane and may feel slightly sticky when first applied to the skin. The DHA reacts with the amino acid on the top layer of your skin to turn you a personalized shade of tan based on your skin’s melanin and pigment. The initial bronzer found in the product is derived from a vegetable dye and is temporary. It gives the instant gratification tan and enables the technician to see where the spray has already been applied to create an even appearance.
How soon will I be tan and how long will my tan last?
You will be tan immediately. However, the DHA tanning phase requires at least 5-6 hours of developing time and then it will turn into a unique tan based on your skin pigment. You may take a shower after this time period or leave it on longer if you prefer. The first time you shower the vegetable dye run-off will be visible in the shower drain and only your resulting tan will remain on the skin. Your tan will last days 7-10 days depending on hydration, exfoliation and natural sweating which vary from person to person.
Getting Ready For Application
- Shaving: It is preferable to shave any areas the night before to avoid over- exfoliating the tanned skin.
- Cleansing: Before applying the product, the areas should be clean, dry, and free of oil and moisturizers.
- Products: If possible, avoid waxing the areas 3-4 days prior to tanning. The wax residue can block tanner absorption
- Fabrics: The vegetable dye contained in the product is water soluble and will wash out of most natural fabrics, however, synthetic fabrics and elastics may become permanently soiled. It is recommended that you wear old, loose, dark clothing and a “slip-on” style shoe without stockings/socks to avoid having the product rub off before developing on your skin. You will be given disposable paper undergarments to wear during application, or you may wish to bring an older bathing suit or undergarment of your own.
- After Care: Unlike self-applied self tanning lotions, this product does not require that it be rubbed in to absorb evenly into the skin. Rubbing the product after your Airtan application may result in uneven coverage on the hands and palms. You must also wait at least 5 hours before swimming, showering, washing or performing vigorous exercise. Five hours is best for the DHA tanning process. When the product is combined with perspiration or water its effectiveness is reduced and a deep, even tan will not be produced. You may see the vegetable dye shift and give the skin a “muddy” appearance, especially around joints or areas that move frequently like knees, elbows, or wrists. This is normal as the dye is resting on the surface of your skin, however, it will not affect your resulting tan.
What is the application method?
You will change into the provided undergarments or your own bathing suit and paper cap to protect your hair. The technician will accompany you into the airbrush room where the tanning mist will be manually sprayed using an airbrush. A face mask will be provided to wear during this serice. You should verify that the coverage is to your satisfaction and request reapplication to any needed areas.
Who is not suitable to get an Airbrush Tan?
Treatment is not suitable for clients who suffer from psoriasis, eczema, cuts and abrasions or those clients experiencing the first three months of pregnancy.
Are there any side effects?
Most clients do not experience side effects; however, if you have any known allergy to DHA, this treatment is not indicated. If you are using a topical or oral antibiotic, you should not receive this service until one month after completing your medication. The tanner reacts only with the uppermost layers of surface (dead) skin cells and is not absorbed systemically into the body; however, some antibiotics will diminish the ability of DHA in the tanning process and result in a poor quality tan.
Will my airbrush tan protect me from getting sunburned?
Dinair Airtan™ does not contain any type of sun protection factor (SPF). To protect your skin from environmental photo-damage, always apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun block whether or not you plan to be in the sun.
